Not this time

My interview went really well today. The guy interviewing me really liked what he saw. He told me that the lesson plan I came up with was really creative. He told me that he loved how cheerful.

Unfortunately, he also told me that there were two other applications who as well has having a great personality also had teaching experience. So for this job position he wouldn’t be able to consider me. He went on to tell me to please contact him again in January which is their big employment period because he would probably have something for me then…

I have to admit I was really dissapointed. But now that I have had time to think I am ok with it. At this stage of my life, when I am aiming to start a family, it is probably a good idea that I am not stuck into a year long contract.

Back to the drawing board for me…

Thank you again for all the support you gave me though. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to go into the interview as confident as I did. It was actually pretty amazing because normally I would have been a barrel of nerves!!

  1. Sorry to hear that they didn`t offer you the job, but your right, something exciting might come your way before January rolls around.

If anything this gives you experience in the interview process so you will know what to expect next time.

  2. Ah, that’s too bad. But, just like you seem to have realized, everything usually works out for a reason. =) On the plus side, you now know have confidence in doing a lesson plan should a similar opportunity come up! I wonder what job you’ll end up getting… keep us updated!

  3. Oh Well, it wasn’t meant to be this time! It was good experience for you! Like a practise for the great job you are going to find soon that will be perfect for the lifestyle you want to have! Keep trying, being brave and exlopring new areas of interest! You will find someting eventually!

  4. Zannen!!!

But awesome that they liked you AND that they said your lesson plan was good! Well done!

I am sure something will pop up soon!

  5. Yeah for you! Doesn’t it feel great to have a positive interview experience? I’ve only had two interviews in my life- and one of them was JET- so I kind of wish I had more interview experience.

And the whole English teaching world is so small and inbred I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a call from a friend of a colleague of the wife of the sister of a guy who works with the guy who interviewed you today or something!

  6. *hugs* sorry you didn’t get an offer, but good news that he liked your presentation!

  7. The important thing is that you got the experience and he was impressed! And you never know what might happen, you know, one of those other teachers might turn down the job, or maybe they’ll have an opening later in the year and think of you, or maybe someone will be asking him about a teacher for their kids, and he’ll remember how great you were. :) Getting yourself out there and making a good impression is the first step! And like you said, there are positive aspects of not being tied down to a year long contract at this point.

Congrats on an interview well done, even though you didn’t get the job. :)

  8. That just blows!!! Oh well, that sucks! Getting out there and interviewing is pertinent, next time around you won’t be so nervous.

  9. Zannenn, but good that you went in and came out positive. It is hard going up against people with a lot of experience.

LOL at heather – so true so true.

Here’s to a good week all round.

  10. Oh Nay :(
I’m so disappointed to hear you didn’t get the job but happy that your interview went so well and you seem pretty at peace with the whole decision.

Theres def. got to be something out there and a reason why this didn’t happen for you now!! And hopefully you were able to learn a lot from this experience as well!!

Its starting to get so hot here – wish I was like you with the beach nearby.. I would LOVE to go for a dip right about now :)

  11. sorry to hear you didn’t get the job but as most people said it sounded like a positive experience. Hopefully something else will come up soon. I loved the reply about the friend of a friend etc.
    love mum

  12. That’s great that you had confidence! It’s a shame you didn’t get it but now you’ve done an ALT interview you’ll know more what to expect. I’m sure you’l find something really soon!

  13. Thank you all for your comments. You are all right, it was great experience just going to the interview. It also gave me a more little confidence than I originally had because I was able to go in to the interview and impress the interviewer without actually having any experience.

I don’t know where to go from here but I am hoping that something will come up. Maybe for now I should just stick to find a part time job somewhere and then hope to find an English teaching job when it comes up.

  14. It’s great that he was impressed! At least you had a chance to experience an interview… They can be so nerve wrecking if haven’t been to many.
